The year 2015 got off to a good start for watch exports, after two less favorable months, the Swiss Federation of Watchmakers reported.

At 1.6 billion francs (approximately $1 billion), their value was up 3.7% compared to January 2014. This increase was recorded on an already high base and with one less working day.

The finishing touches are being put to the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) Executive Committee (Exco) Meeting and Asia-Pacific Presidents’ Summit to be held in Shanghai on March 9 and 10. Regional WFDB presidents, along with WFDB President Ernie Blom, will be hosted by the Shanghai Diamond Exchange.

The Shanghai Gold Exchange and the World Gold Council, the market development organization for the gold industry, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Agreement.
 
The Shanghai Gold Exchange is the largest physical gold exchange worldwide and the World Gold Council is the global authority on the gold industry.

The Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) will hold the second Dubai Diamond Conference from April 21 to April 22, 2015. The conference will be held at Almas Tower, the Middle East’s tallest commercial tower that is home to over 1,000 diamond, precious metals, precious stones and jewelry companies.

On Friday 13 February, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) organized a seminar on diamond financing in collaboration with Febelfin, the Belgian Financial Sector Federation.

This seminar, attended by some 15 banks, including the traditional major banks, Indian banks specializing in diamonds, as well as private banks, explained how diamond financing works.

The AWDC hosted 109 leading diamond traders in the Antwerp Diamond Pavilion at the 2015 Hong Kong Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show From March 2-6.

It was the second year the traditional Hong Kong March fair featured a separate loose stones venue. In its first year, the show attracted over 32,000 professional buyers from around the world, marking its emergence as one of the most successful shows in the industry.

EGL South Africa Managing Director Alan Lowe has issued a statement regarding his lab in response to a RapNet press release issued on September 9 regarding its suspension of EGL diamond certificates.

However, the Global Diamond Portal is inviting members of the diamond industry around the world to continue uploading their diamond stocks to the site, regardless of the certificate with which they are provided.
