Heart-shaped diamond necklace to go under the hammer in time for Valentine's Day

An auction house in Scotland is giving someone the opportunity to buy a special Valentine's Day gift a £35,000 ($55,000) heart-shaped diamond necklace.

The necklace, to be sold by a Glasgow auctioneer, is set with 22 carats of brilliant cut diamonds – 17 carats of diamonds are set in the white gold chain, and another five carats in a diamond-set heart pendant.

Elaine Grieve, a jewelry expert at auction house, McTear's, said: "The item is a true work of art and shows well why diamonds are a girl's best friend. It is obviously an expensive piece of jewelry but it should be pointed out that a handmade, one of a kind necklace like this would sell at a jewelry shop for up to £90,000 ($140,000).

"We have set a pre-sale auction estimate of £25,000 and £35,000 on the item, which we think is quite a bargain for anyone looking for a special Valentine gift this year."

The Fine Jewellery, Watches and Coins sale is due to take place at McTear's Auctioneers in Glasgow on February 6.
