Alrosa Posts 16% Jump in Diamond Output in Q2

Russia's Alrosa reported a 16-percent rise on the year in production to 9.627 million carats in the second quarter which ended on June 30.

For the first six months of the year, output was 5 percent higher than in the year-before period at 17.11 million carats. Production for 2012 was 34.4 million carats.

Alrosa said that the rise in output was due to its Aikhal underground mine reaching target capacity, its acquisition of OJSC Nizhne-Lenskoye, and better grades at the Jubilee pipe.
