Mining giant Rio Tinto said Jean-Marc Lieberherr is the new head of Rio Tinto Diamonds.
He will begin as Managing Director, Diamonds, on September 1. The new post gives him responsibility for all of Rio Tinto Diamonds.
Lieberherr has worked for Rio Tinto Diamonds since 2005, most recently in the position of Chief Commercial Officer.
His 's appointment is part of a restructuring of the firm which decided in April to retain its diamond operations.
In addition, diamond mining operations have been consolidated under Kim Truter who takes over from Lieberherr as Chief Operating Officer.
Truter is Managing Director of the Argyle mine in Australia, and was previously President of the Diavik mine in Canada.
